Career opportunities as modular house builder welcomes pupils into its factory

A modular homes developer based in Wishaw threw open its factory doors for the day to show the careers they can offer young people when they enter the world of work.

Enevate Homes Limited provides apprenticeship opportunities in plumbing, electrical and joinery, and opened their modular build factory in Netherton Road to welcome pupils from St Aidan’s High and Coltness High in for a closer look at what they do.

Members of Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), North Lanarkshire Council and North Lanarkshire’s Working also attended. The young people received a warm welcome from Enevate’s Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety Manager, John McMurray who explained a bit about the company, what they do and how the apprenticeship event would progress.

Before the factory tour, Enevate Home’s current apprentices gave talks on their experiences to date and revealed how much they were enjoying their time there. They explained the training programs that are in place and how the practical experience of working in the factory was giving them the opportunity to understand their chosen apprenticeship route in much greater detail.

The opportunity to earn and learn was clearly seen as a positive route to attainment. A factory tour followed which was led by Enevate’s Factory Manager, Jim McFarlane, Kyle Nelson, Tony Rooney & Aaron Armit.

The young people were shown the process of cutting steel to size, welding it to the jigs before it is then moved into the fit-out area, where windows, door frames, skirting and bathrooms and kitchens are put in place.
